My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the first book I've read from Alyssa and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was hesitant at first, because the "poor rich kids" trope usually doesn't hold a lot of appeal for me; especially in a modern setting. But Alyssa does a great job making you care for Johan and Nya outside their life styles. Royalty plays a background role, but it's not inherent to what the characters are. I enjoyed many things about the main characters and their love story... I loved the pace, and how they both found ways to overcome their fears and walls and trust in each other. I love their honesty and how they opened to one another, talking about their lives, their fears and dreams. I always appreciate the lack of unnecessary drama in romance and how most of their issues/conflict comes from external situations.
While modern royalty is not my favorite background, I enjoyed the visions on the kingdoms, and the discussions about colonization and its long-lasting effect. I really hope we can get a novella oh the Njaza King and his arranged marriage!
A wonderful read, full of funny moments and heartfelt ones as well. Definitely an author I look forward to continue reading.
